Yoko Akimoto is a character appearing in the Sing "Yesterday" for Me manga and its 2020 anime adaptation.
Biography[]
Yoko is Haru's mother. She remarried and took her new husband's last name. [1] She also teaches at the same school as her newest partner, Kawashima. She had a rough past with men and Haru is estranged from her father because of it. While Yoko is content with letting Haru live alone and make her own choices, she attempts to keep Haru involved in her life by introducing her to her fiance. Haru lives close to Yoko, although they rarely visit each other throughout the series. When Haru goes to live with her grandmother near Ise in Mie prefecture, Yoko worries for her daughter and is the first to tell her boss that she ran away. When Haru returns to Tokyo, Yoko continues to maintain what she views as a healthy distance between each other.
Personality[]
She is rough around the edges, a lack of empathy with her daughter. Their parent/child dynamic is not normal, but not particularly bad. They are not very close or too distanced. She does offer to take care of Haru more, but Haru usually declines.
Appearance[]
Medium hair length with bangs off to the side. She is usually scowling with a cigarette between her fingers. She wears heavy makeup.
